Intuit announces enhancements to tax products

Intuit announced a host of new features and enhancements for its tax preparation and planning solutions ahead of the upcoming tax season.

Users of Intuit Tax Advisor can now:

  • Select tax-loss harvesting and cost segregation studies as strategies in Intuit Tax Advisor.
  • Edit multiple fields in an activity (W2, K-1, etc.) together before recalculation occurs.
  • Gain more visibility to which tax fields are impacted by a strategy and more detail about the calculations.
  • Have enhanced error handling when users enter a strategy value that is not supported in order to easily identify and correct errors. Plus, strategies with errors will be excluded from client reports to avoid any confusion.
  • Customize and communicate client report in more ways, from reordering pages to editing strategy content.

Intuit plans to also add the ability to select qualified business income deduction optimization as a strategy in Intuit Tax Advisor, the ability to select converting self-employed businesses to an S corporation as a strategy in Intuit Tax Advisor, and add a new self-help widget in Intuit Tax Advisor which provides contextual help as well as the ability to search articles or the community in product for in-depth information.

The company also announced several new enhancements to its ProConnect Tax solution. Users can now:

  • Export client data from standard tax return fields and query data based on common tax scenarios; 
  • Customize default print options for client, preparer, and filing copies;
  • Get news and product updates sent directly to a new notifications inbox within ProConnect Tax;
  • View and manage all documents, internal to the firm and shared with the client, in one place;
  • View a summary of information before e-filing, including a list of the federal and state returns, payment method, and the refund amount or balance due;
  • Choose authentication options for returning clients that don’t require knowledge-based questions; and, 
  • Use Microsoft Edge version 103.0 and Opera web browsers, which had not been supported before.

There were also updates to Intuit Link in ProConnect Tax. including Google Drive integration and a “Mark as done” feature.
ProSeries has also been enhanced. Users are now able to:

  • Transfer prior year and current year TurboTax business returns to current-year ProSeries returns in just a few clicks;
  • E-file superseded federal and California returns;
  • Backup and restore ProSeries data, even between more than one computer; and,
  • Create and edit standard client letters in the software, starting in tax year 2022.

Intuit is also planning to eventually add a QuickBooks Online Account import feature.
Finally, the company also announced enhancements to Lacerte:

  • Access to more information about specific tax forms or calculations without leaving that form;
  • No more 30-minute inactivity timeouts.

Intuit also plans eventually to add integration with Intuit Tax Advisor.
