  2. Press Ctrl + Alt + Del key together and select Task Manager.
  3. Under the Process tab, locate QBPOSShell.exe, QBPOSDBService.exe, and qbpos.exe processes.
  4. Right-click each process and select End Task.
  5. Select Yes for the confirmation.
  6. Once you close all the processes, press Windows + R and type services.msc in the Run window’s text box.
  7. Hit OK and scroll down in the services list to find the QBPOS Database Manager service.
  8. Right-click the service and select Stop.
  9. Now navigate to C:\ProgramData\Intuit\QuickBooks Point of Sale XX\UPDATE and press Ctrl + A to select all the files in the folder. (If you find the folder is empty, then make sure to display hidden files in Windows.)
  10. After selecting all the files, press Delete and hit Yes.

Solution 2: Repair Windows Installer File

  1. Press Windows + R and type services.msc.
  2. Hit OK and find Windows Installer in the list of services.
  3. Right-click the service and select Properties.
  4. Under the Startup Type drop-down list, choose Manual and press OK.
  5. Now right-click the service, and from the left side, panel select Start.
  6. Follow the Windows Installer Update link and download the latest installer file.
  7. Install the file from the downloads and restart Windows.
  8. Try installing QuickBooks POS once again and check the status of Fatal Error in QuickBooks.

Solution 3: Perform a Clean Installation of QuickBooks POS

  1. Uninstall QuickBooks POS from the Add or Remove Programs under the Control Panel.
  2. Download the updated POS installation file from the link.
  3. Double-click the installation file from the downloads to begin the installation.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
  5. Open QuickBooks POS after the installation.
